Biography
Alain L. Sanders is a member of the Political Science Department of Saint Peter's College where he teaches a wide variety of courses on U.S. politics: American Government, The American Presidency, Congress, The American Judicial Process, Constitutional Law, Mass Media and American Politics, and Perspectives on Politics. His areas of research focus on the national press as well as on law and politics. Professor Sanders revived the Saint Peter’s College Gannon Debating Society and served as its faculty adviser for seven years. Currently he is the College's faculty liaison to the
Washington
Center internship program.
Prior to joining the Saint Peter's College faculty, Professor Sanders was a journalist for 21 years. He worked as a senior reporter for TIME Magazine and wrote stories for every major news section of the magazine, including the Nation, World and Law sections. He was a member of the original writing team for the pioneering, irreverent, humor-in-the-news Chronicles and Notebook sections. He was also a writer for TIME's early Internet site.
During his career in journalism, Professor Sanders appeared on a variety of radio and television talk shows and talk show segments to discuss and analyze political developments. He was a weekly radio commentator on American news developments for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and Australian radio stations 2KY, 4BC and 2NC. He has published a variety of free-lance articles over the years, and he continues to publish newspaper op-ed articles on political and legal affairs,as well as provide comment on news developments in various media.
A lawyer, Professor Sanders practiced briefly with a New York City law firm early in his career. He holds an A.B. degree from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and a J.D. degree from the Columbia University Law School. He was born in Paris, and he is fluent in French.
